Former Chief of General Staff, Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe has described the late foremost human rights activist and Lagos lawyer, Gani Fawehinmi as “one-man army who fought relentlessly for the enthronement of democratic rule in Nigeria.”
Akhigbe who was reacting from the United Kingdom on Sunday said, through Gani’s efforts the common man was given hope and he “inspired some of us to work assiduously for enthronement of democratic governance in our nation.”
The former number two citizen of Nigeria in the last military dispensation, urged Nigerians to commit themselves to Gani’s struggles to ensure democracy and rule of law, which is “the only true honour we can do to this great Nigerian.”
Akhigbe noted that though Nigerians had not fully reaped fruits of Gani’s efforts, “he will certainly be remembered as the number one Nigerian crusader for justice and rule of law.” He prayed that the late lawyer’s soul rest in peace.
